The Studienstiftung der Bergischen Universität would like to promote these qualities and the corresponding positive attitude to life and reward them with its scholarship program.
The most important things at a glance
Scholarship amount: up to € 300 per month.
Scholarship duration: up to one academic year.
Who for: Students whose academic success is at risk for financial reasons and who cannot receive BAföG/student finance services.
Scholarships for financial hardship and to finance graduation
The Studienstiftung of the University of Wuppertal's scholarship program consists of three funding lines and is aimed at students whose academic success is at risk for economic reasons.
Scholarships are awarded with special consideration given to personal circumstances and/or social commitment if the student is likely to progress successfully.
The Studienstiftung der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal awards scholarships to students of the University of Wuppertal who
- have been regularly enrolled at the university of Wuppertal for at least 1 year,
- have not yet reached the age of 35,
- have not yet completed a degree in a degree program (not yet the last degree in the case of a consecutive study model), (a second degree is therefore not eligible for funding)
- do not receive any other financial support and
- who could receive BAföG/student finance services due to their financial situation, but are not eligible for one of the reasons listed below and fall into one of the three funding lines below.
Funding line A:
- You fall into the group of foreign nationals who cannot receive regular BAföG/student finance services (half grant/half interest-free loan) or any other scholarship.
Funding line B:
- You receive regular BAföG funding for less than the respective maximum funding period due to a late or multiple change of subject or for other reasons and your regular BAföG/student finance services have already expired or will expire at the end of the respective semester.
Funding line C:
- You no longer receive regular funding in the current semester because you have exceeded the maximum funding period. The prerequisite for funding is that you are expected to graduate within one year.
General information on the application process:
Applications for the next scholarship year are expected to be possible from June 17 to August 15, 2024 via our online application process. The funding period for the next scholarship year is from October 2024 to September 2025 at the latest.
You can save your application temporarily and continue at a later date within the application period.
You can apply online for the Studienstiftung scholarship via this website from mid-June.

- Letter of motivation (max. 1 page)
- Curriculum vitae in tabular form incl. educational background
- Current certificate of study
- Current proof of previous academic achievements (WUSEL/StudiLöwe - excerpt), if applicable, certificates of achievement already obtained)
- Proof of financial situation (bank statements from current account showing transactions for the last three full months)
- current reference (from the current semester, not older than six months) about your student achievements from a professor or a doctoral employee of your own degree program at the University of Wuppertal
- Certificate from the BAföG/student finance services office confirming the mandatory BAföG consultation with Ms. Arnold: ME 3, Room 2, Tel.: 439 2571, arnold[at]hsw.uni-wuppertal.de
- For foreign students, a copy of the passport with reference to the respective residence permit
If applicable:
- Proof of other financial support, if applicable
- Proof of extracurricular/social commitment, if applicable.

A selection committee consisting of:
- 4 students - 1 employee of the International Office - 1 employee of the BAföG/student finance services - 1 employee of the Student Advisory Service
evaluates and prioritizes the submitted applications. The Executive Board of the Foundation decides on the awarding of scholarships based on the recommendations of the selection committee. Notification of the approval/non-approval of the scholarship is made in writing by the Executive Board without further explanation.
