The Smart & Sustainable Start Scholarship of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology

Are you interested in a degree program at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology and are actively planning to enroll for the winter semester 2024/25? Then why not apply for a scholarship at the same time? The Smart & Sustainable Start Scholarship is a completely new scholarship. For the first time from the winter semester 2024/25, it will support first-year students at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology whose career to date indicates good academic and professional performance. Additional experience gained (e.g. through "Jugend forscht", student awards, other activities or STEM-related professional experience) should also be included in the application, if available. Scholarship holders receive the income-independent grant of 300 euros per month (in addition to BAföG/student finance services) for two semesters. After that, there is the opportunity to apply for a one-off extension for a further two semesters. In addition, there is top support and quick access to the faculty.

And what else is special? When you apply for the Smart & Sustainable Start Scholarship, you automatically apply for the Deutschlandstipendium at the University of Wuppertal at the same time. So simply apply and double your chances!

The most important facts at a glance

Who for: Only first-year students whose previous academic record indicates good performance in their studies

Applications for the next scholarship year are possible from mid-June until August 31, 2024 via the online application procedure of the Deutschlandstipendium of the University of Wuppertal. As part of your application for the Deutschlandstipendium, you can also select the Start Scholarship and thus significantly increase your chances of receiving a scholarship. The selection process runs from the beginning of September to mid-October. The acceptance and rejection letters for the scholarship are therefore expected to be sent out at the end of October. The funding period for the next scholarship year is October 2024 to September 2025 at the latest. You can save your application temporarily and continue at a later date within the application period.

Incomplete applications will not be considered! Although good grades play a role in the selection of scholarship holders, don't be afraid to apply with a two in front of the decimal point! In our uncomplicated online application process, the letter of motivation is also important, which can focus on social commitment and special CVs. The application is designed to save you as much effort as possible. You can easily complete the application within one day - if you want to. The application process can easily be paused and continued at a later date. You will need the following documents for your application:

  1. A letter of motivation (max. 1 DIN A4 page) in which you can tell us why you are applying for a scholarship and why the University of Wuppertal should support you.
  2. Curriculum vitae (in tabular form).
  3. Certificate of enrolment for the following winter semester.
  4. Certificate of university entrance qualification.

If applicable:

  1. Training certificate, if applicable.
  2. Work references, if applicable.
  3. Internship certificates, if applicable.

The recipient of your application is the Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching.

Prerequisite: Good or very good grades in mathematics and physics or mathematics and computer science or two years of professional experience in STEM subjects.

Applications must always be submitted in the first degree program or sub-degree program in which the applicant is enrolled.

Scholarship holders are selected by the central awarding committee (which also awards the Deutschlandstipendium) and the decentralized awarding committee of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology. During the entire funding period, the scholarship holder must be enrolled as a student at the University of Wuppertal in a degree program of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology.

The scholarship is independent of income.

First-year students who receive other funding for the same purpose and/or within the same period of time from a public or publicly funded private institution (e.g. the Deutschlandstipendium, scholarships from the DAAD, the DFG or the Begabtenförderwerke) are not eligible.

Funding is also excluded if the first-year students and students accept another scholarship in the course of being awarded this scholarship.
